Spindle RPM
In the high-volume production industry, meeting customer requirements such as shorter turnaround times, higher quality, and lower costs has become an ongoing challenge for machine tool designers. Makino is renowned for delivering quality and reliability through its innovative machining centres, advanced technologies, and process expertise.
Makino’s compact vertical machining centre, the Slim3n, offers high performance and highly efficient machining for high-volume part production. The Slim3n is ideally suited to a wide range of component machining applications, with a focus on maximising machining efficiency, increasing flexibility, streamlining workflows, and supporting various types of automation.
The Slim3n features a fixed-table design that offers customers greater flexibility for fixture design, accommodating larger envelopes, higher fixture weights, and simple interfacing to support a wide range of machining applications. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) design techniques have been utilised to optimise structural rigidity and torsional stiffness, ensuring ultimate performance and consistent results. The machine’s structural configuration is based on a closed-frame design combined with long, supportive columns, achieving superior structural rigidity.
Makino’s leadership in spindle technology is recognised globally. Spindle rigidity, high speed, constant pre-load, multi-plane balancing, minimal vibration, and reduced thermal growth are key areas in which Makino has excelled through innovative design and manufacturing. The Slim3n is available with two spindle specifications – 16,000 rpm and 8,000 rpm – to meet the diverse machining requirements of the high-volume production machinery industry.
The standard 26-tool ATC magazine provides smooth and fast indexing, supporting high-speed machining applications. Designed with an armless, direct tool pick mechanism for enhanced performance, it also features an integrated door design that eliminates the need for separate actuators, improving reliability.
Designed for production environments, the Slim3n’s coolant system boosts productivity. Equipped with nozzle and flush coolant as standard, it efficiently removes chips from the cutting zone. The machine’s structure includes a sloped design for faster chip evacuation, while a Lift-Up Chip Conveyor can be integrated at the rear to manage high chip generation demands.
A pallet changer enables simultaneous setup on one pallet and machining on the other, significantly reducing setup time.
